Maintenance Tips to Avoid Future Call-Outs

A lot of hardware failures are slowed down or avoided entirely with basic upkeep that takes minutes. Hinges and locking mechanisms benefit from an occasional spray of light oil or silicone-based lubricant (not general household oil, which attracts dust and grit over time) - once or twice a year is usually enough. Keeping the drainage channels along the bottom of the frame clear of dirt and debris stops water sitting where it shouldn't and speeding up wear on the mechanism. And windows that don't get opened for long stretches - box rooms, back bedrooms - benefit from being opened and closed a few times every couple of months, since a lock or hinge that's never moved is more likely to seize than one that's used regularly.
